Mole Removal Conveniently located to serve New York City

Although doctors sometimes remove moles for medical reasons, the vast majority of moles are benign. Even if your mole is not a threat to your health, you may want to remove it for cosmetic reasons. A mole located in a highly visible location like your face can be embarrassing and can make you feel self-conscious, and a cosmetic surgery procedure may be the right way to restore your confidence in your facial appearance.

If a mole is affecting the way you feel about yourself, learn more about our New York mole removal treatments. Please call Manhattan Surgical Care at 212-308-1566 to schedule a consultation with experienced cosmetic surgeon Basil Pakeman, MD, FRCS.

A mole is a darkly colored growth on your skin. It may take the form of a raised area or simply a dark region. The characteristic dark color of moles is due to the high concentration of melanin, or skin pigment. Most moles are harmless, but some may require medical attention.

Moles can be removed in a couple of ways:

  • Shaving and cauterizing: This is the most common way to remove cosmetically displeasing moles. Dr. Pakeman will shave off the mole using a small blade and then cauterize the area to stop bleeding. This kind of mole removal rarely causes noticeable scarring.
  • Excision: Less commonly, the mole may be excised, which means it is cut out from the skin and then the area is sutured closed. If your mole requires this treatment, Dr. Pakeman will do everything possible to minimize the scar.

Typically, an excision technique is used on a mole that your physician has told you is potentially cancerous. The entire mole and a small margin of healthy tissue around it are removed, and then the surgeon may send it to a pathologist for evaluation. On the other hand, if the mole is benign but you do not like its appearance on your skin, then shaving the mole away often effectively removes the growth and creates smooth, attractive skin.

Feeling bad about your skin can lead to feelings of self-consciousness. Especially if you have large moles on your face, you may feel less confident when you interact with other people. With our mole removal techniques, we want to restore your confidence and self-esteem by helping you achieve the smoothest, most appealing skin possible.
