Lasik Candidates Conveniently located to serve New York City

If you have grown tired of prescription eyewear, you may be the ideal LASIK candidate. The best way to determine if laser vision correction is right for you is through a one-on-one consultation with board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Basil Pakeman.

To schedule your LASIK consultation, please contact Manhattan Surgical Care online or by calling 212-308-1566 today. We welcome patients from New York and all nearby areas.

Corneal Flap

LASIK requires the creation of a small flap in the cornea. This allows our LASIK surgeon to carefully reshape the inner corneal layers and produce crystal clear vision. The creation of this flap requires a minimal corneal thickness. If your corneas are too thin, you will not be a good candidate for traditional LASIK surgery.

In addition, any diseases or conditions that impact the health and integrity of the cornea may create complications during and after LASIK surgery. Dr. Pakeman will thoroughly examine your eyes prior to suggesting laser vision correction to help determine if corneal issues are present. If corneal thickness is a concern, Dr. Pakeman may suggest a LASIK alternative such as PRK.

Other Considerations

In addition to having healthy corneas, good candidates for LASIK must have had stable vision for at least 12 months and should be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • In generally good health
  • Free of eye diseases and conditions
  • Willing to follow all pre and postoperative instructions

Women who are pregnant or nursing are not good candidates for LASIK. However, Dr. Pakeman would be happy to meet with you once your child has been weaned to discuss your options.

LASIK is a safe and effective way to find freedom from prescription eyewear, but it is not right for everyone. During your initial consultation Dr. Pakeman will discuss your needs, examine your eyes, and help you determine if LASIK is the best choice for your vision.

If you are considering LASIK in New York, please call our board-certified ophthalmologist at 212-308-1566 to schedule your initial consultation today.
