Asian Eyelid Surgery

Conveniently located to serve New York City

Asian Eyelid Surgery - BlepharoplastyAsian eyelid surgery, or Asian blepharoplasty, is a popular cosmetic surgery in America and Asia. Approximately half of Asian men and women are born with a “single eyelid,” which means their upper eyelids do not have a crease. Asian eyelid surgery creates a double eyelid by forming a crease which shows when your eyes are open, but not closed. This procedure alters the shape and height of the eyelid to give you optimal results based on your individual goals.

Our cosmetic surgeon offers Asian eyelid surgery at our New York office. If you’re interested in this procedure or traditional blepharoplasty, please contact Manhattan Surgical Care today at 212-308-1566 to schedule your consultation.

How is Asian Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) Done?

An incision is made along your upper eyelid which can be hidden within the created crease and minimal to moderate excess skin is removed. Additionally, some fatty tissue may be taken out to allow our surgeon to create a fold parallel to your eyelash line. This technique offers a natural-looking double crease that retains your Asian appearance while providing a wider eyelid opening. If your brows are sagging due to age or genetics, Dr. Pakeman may suggest a brow lift to remove more skin tissue. Brow sagging can create a hooded look and may interfere with your vision.

Double eyelid surgery is not as invasive as other cosmetic procedures. This surgery is typically done on an outpatient basis, and you’re able to return home afterward. Your eyelid crease may look slightly higher during the days following your surgery, but your ideal results will settle in over the span of one to two months. The healing process is similar to that of the traditional blepharoplasty recovery.

Asian Eyelid Vs. Caucasian Eyelid

Asian Eyelid Surgery - BlepharoplastyAsian and Caucasian eyelids differ in the eyelid crease position, height, shape and length. Asian eyelid creases begin near the eyelashes and typically extend upward as the crease gets further from your nose. The fold becomes larger until the midpoint of your pupil and is parallel to your eyelash line. Caucasian eyelids can be up to 20 percent larger or wider and instead of running parallel to the eyelash line, form a reversed “U” shape.

Why Choose Manhattan Surgical Care?

It’s important to choose a cosmetic surgeon who understands the unique technical details of Asian eyelid surgery to ensure ideal, permanent results. The goal of this procedure is not to westernize your eyelids, but to form a natural crease similar to that of your family members or friends. Dr. Pakeman has performed many double eyelid surgeries and can tailor your procedure to meet your aesthetic goals while maintaining your Asian appearance.

Dr. Pakeman can answer all of your questions during your consultation at our New York office. Our office also offers a virtual consultation for our patients who travel from outside of the state or country. We can go over the cost of your procedure and discuss your financing options. In some cases, insurance may cover the cost of your Asian blepharoplasty if the excess skin on your upper eyelid impairs your vision.
