Lasik Conveniently located to serve New York City

Eyeglasses and contact lenses can be a daily hassle. If you dream of waking up in the morning with clear, sharp vision without glasses or contacts, then LASIK in New York City may be right for you. The only way to know for sure if you are a good candidate is to visit an experienced LASIK surgeon for a consultation. To schedule a consultation with our board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Basil Pakeman, please call Manhattan Surgical Care at 212-308-1566.

The LASIK Procedure for improved Vision

LASIK is an innovative surgical procedure that improves your vision in a matter of minutes. It works by reshaping the corneas of your eyes using precise laser technology. LASIK can correct many cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatsm – these refractive errors are caused by an irregularly shaped cornea, so LASIK improves vision by changing the cornea's curvature.

CustomVue LASIK: Dr. Pakeman offers CustomVue technology to create a highly individualized LASIK procedure. This technology creates a detailed, 3D map of your corneas so that very minute irregularities can be seen. This map allows Dr. Pakeman to provide you with the best possible results from LASIK while reducing the risk of complications. Additional benefits include a faster treatment time and eliminated need for pupil dilation.

LASIK Candidates

Not everyone is a good candidate for LASIK surgery, but Dr. Pakeman has the experience, knowledge and skill to determine if you are. Characteristics of the ideal LASIK candidate include:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Has had a stable prescription and vision for at least a year
  • Adequate cornea thickness to create a flap
  • Refractive error is included in the range of treatable errors
  • Free of any health conditions that may impair healing
  • Fully informed of the risks and benefits of the procedure
  • Realistic expectations of what the procedure can achieve

LASIK uses a surgical device called a microkeratome, which cuts a thin flap in the surface of the cornea. You won't feel the microkeratome working because your eyes will be numbed. After a corneal flap is created, it is lifted so that a laser can be used to reshape the cornea's curvature (steepened for far-sighted patients, flattened for near-sighted patients) to improve vision.

A major advantage of LASIK is how quickly it can be completed. The procedure takes only about 15 to 30 minutes per eye. You should be able to leave our office an hour or two later. The corneal flap will heal itself over the next several days.

How Much Does LASIK Cost?

The price of your LASIK treatment will depend on the specifics of your procedure. Once your treatment plan has been developed, the details and cost of your procedure will be reviewed with you.
